About the program

Do you want to be an experimental or theoretical physicist? Here, you don’t need to choose – gain a high-quality education in photonics, spintronics, and quantum optics.

Within this Bachelor’s program, you’ll obtain fundamental training in theoretical physics and mathematics, as well as modern branches of physics, such as quantum optics and quantum field theory, and learn to numerically model complex physical systems and analyze them using machine learning.

Starting in your first semester, you will get to work on projects that pique the interest of global high-tech companies, attend lectures by highly-cited researchers, as well as join a physics contest team and work in well-equipped laboratories.

FAQ

What’s the difference between the subject area 03.03.02 Physics and the subject area 16.03.01 Physics and Engineering?
Starting from 2024, students of the program are free to choose their specialization within two subject areas: Physics (03.03.02) and Physics and Engineering (16.03.01). The difference is that the former (03.03.02) implies a more advanced physics training compared to the latter. We recommend prospective students to apply for both but pick their priority.

Which physics competition is hosted by ITMO?
ITMO University and its Faculty of Physics in particular organize Online Olympiad in Physics for School Students and Open Olympiad in Physics for School Students.

Does the Faculty of Physics offer training for school students?
Yes, you can learn more here (link in Russian).

Can I apply online?
Yes. If you want to apply online, you need to submit scanned copies of all the required documents via your personal account on the admissions website. You can learn how to do it here.
