About the program
We train bioinformatics specialists who can both develop their own academic career and integrate in major biotech companies.The program, implemented by ITMO’s Advanced Engineering School, is designed for students with a background in natural sciences who want to become well-versed in data analysis, programming, and machine learning and deploy those skills to solve biological problems. Each student of the program will be able to work on real-world cases from our industrial and academic partners. The program offers a variety of fields of study, from human genomics and metagenomics of marine invertebrates to medicine to biotechnology. Its focus lies in interactions with businesses. As students master the program’s core blocks, they are to choose one of the three tracks:
- academia – to explore the unknown and share their discoveries in scientific journals;
- industry – to collaborate with partner companies and put genomics expertise into action;
- startup – to bring their academic and engineering ambitions to life and receive support for their implementation.

Career
Graduates are equipped with specialized biological knowledge, as well as data analysis and project management skills, making them competent to: advance their career in science and carry on with their projects as PhD students at Russian and international universities; opt to pursue a career as a bioinformatics engineer to solve applied and theoretical tasks at biotechnological and biomedical companies; build a career as a manager of biotechnological products; develop their own projects and break into the market with the support of ITMO Accelerator.
