About the program

The Neurotechnologies and Software Engineering Master’s program trains highly-qualified specialists who are in high demand for their synthesis of competencies.

Neurocomputer technologies are sought-after in lots of different fields (telecommunication, banking, etc.) and are closely linked with inclusive technologies and human-machine interfaces. Within the two-year training, you will gain the knowledge and skills necessary for an applied programmer in today’s world to solve relevant tasks on the development of neurocomputer technologies and their applications. In particular, you will study the basics of neurophysiology, AI methods, and technologies for building human-machine interfaces, analyzing user behavior and state and maintaining their efficiency, as well as deepen your knowledge of the methodology behind software engineering and gain some experience solving research tasks. To put your expertise into practice, you will have access to multifunctional digital complexes for collecting and processing direct and indirect brain signals.

As part of the program, you will intern at major IT companies. The program is implemented in partnership with the S.M. Kirov Military Medical Academy, Nexign, and others.

The two years I spent at ITMO was nothing but a worthwhile experience. Starting from our first year, we were involved in projects related to our future theses’ topics, which the program’s team helped us pick according to our interests and potential industry collaborations. The university’s laboratories are well-equipped for complex studies that require rare and specialized tools. Students have the chance to build their own individual learning tracks and a balanced schedule to manage both work and studies.

On a separate note, the university offers corporate programs, which let students learn from field experts and have their internships at the partner companies. During classes, the company’s staff elaborate on their specialization, demonstrate how they apply their theoretical knowledge, as well as share the inner workings of their businesses and professional experiences. Internships are typically part-time so students have no trouble working alongside them. At the same time, students can be involved in all kinds of projects the company works on, both inner and outsource ones, to gain hands-on experience and expand their CVs. In my case, an internship turned into a full-time job.
