About the program

The Master's program aims to teach students to design, implement, service, and upgrade various engineering systems.

This program is not aimed exclusively at students who already have a Bachelor’s degree in refrigeration and cryogenic technologies, life support systems, or thermal engineering. Engineering students with no background in the aforementioned fields are also welcome to apply.

The program’s curriculum fully covers the following subjects: functioning of engineering systems designed for gathering, processing, and transportation of liquefied natural gas (LNG); use of design and engineering software (CAD and CAE systems); basics of physical processes modeling.

The program comprises four specializations:

  • Liquefied Natural Gas Technologies
  • Industrial Refrigeration Systems and Heat Pumps
  • Energy-Efficient Climate Systems
  • Compressor Equipment

When I started my education, this department was an entire separate university called St. Petersburg State University of Refrigeration and Food Processing Technologies. I graduated in 2006 with a degree in refrigeration, cryogenic equipment and air conditioning. I first started working at various organizations as a designer of climate control systems. Later, I upgraded to heading my own construction projects. I worked with food companies, a microelectronics manufacturing plant, agricultural facilities, mining operations, and civil engineering projects to provide them with state-of-the-art climate control systems. The skills I acquired at university are what made me confident in my designs, all of which are functioning without issue by providing quality air conditioning of production facilities and refrigeration of manufacturing processes to this day. After ITMO merged with St. Petersburg State University of Refrigeration and Food Processing Technologies, I enrolled in a PhD program at the Faculty of Energy and Ecotechnology. As I studied, I expanded my skillset and became much more experienced in applied research. All in all, the talented academic staff, the high quality of education, and numerous career opportunities are what makes me want to pursue further collaboration with ITMO University. I am fully convinced that this new Master’s program will train many highly qualified refrigeration specialists in the future.
