I have a lot of ties with ITMO and the Master’s program Applied Optics in particular – not just on the academic but also professional and personal levels. I was in the same subject area as a Bachelor’s student and when I started my Master’s, it was clear that I found if not my calling, then at least something that truly touches my heart.

The first thing I want to point out is the academic staff. These are the people with whom you can go through fire and water and trips abroad. And then at my first job (which I got thanks to my lecturers) I happen to work side by side with other ITMO graduates and your mentors’ friends, colleagues, or acquaintances. This sacred family atmosphere is what makes this program stand out. You can be sure that if you go through with the program and really feel the love for this field of physics, you’ll get to be on close terms with all optics specialists in the country :)

Second, and just as important, the program helps you acquire a great profession (an optics designer or technologist) that is now and will continue to be in great demand on the labor market.

Thirdly, the well-structured knowledge and its accessibility help students immerse in the professional environment with ease, which gives the program some extra points in my personal ranking.

And, finally, ITMO offers a bounty of opportunities for broadening one’s horizons: student clubs, soft skills courses, international conferences, and optional courses. The program gives you confidence in your future and, if you are lucky, even an opportunity to visit China and meet some of your colleagues there :)
    Good luck!
