After a Bachelor’s in physics, this program felt like a crash course in computer science and software engineering. All the disciplines we had were extremely helpful and interesting, but most of all I enjoyed algorithms and data structures, introduction to machine learning, Unix and scripting languages, C++, cryptography, and information retrieval. Aside from excellent courses, I had a chance to publish my paper, went to Madrid to study bioinformatics with the support of the university, did my internship at ITMO’s International Laboratory "Computer Technologies", acquired useful skills and knowledge, and met awesome friends.

FAQ

faqfaqfaqfaq
Can I combine work and studies? How many hours per week will I study?
You should keep in mind that it might be hard to handle a job during your first year at the university. You will have an intense schedule: 15-18 classes per week and after-class study sessions, which you will need to do your assignments. Students usually start working part-time in their second year.

Can I apply if I have no relevant background?
We have lots of students with degrees in natural sciences, as well as management, economics, philology, and medicine. Though studying might be more challenging for you, you can expect to catch up with those students who have a background in the field by the end of your first semester.

What’s an application process like for international students?
The program is in Russian so students are expected to speak the language fluently. Apart from language proficiency, applicants are expected to have compatriot status. You can learn how to get it at ITMO’s International Admission Office (international@itmo.ru or +7 (812) 607-04-83). After you’re recognized as a compatriot, you can apply on the same terms as Russian students.

Which internship options do students have? Can I participate in conferences?
Once you complete your first year of studies, you will have a chance to intern at Russian (Gazprom Neft, Yandex, or Sirius Education Center) or international (JetBrains, Google, Uber, etc.) companies. We offer students assistance in application procedures for conferences and cover participation and traveling costs.
