About the program
The program trains top-tier experts in human-machine communication based on AI and deep learning. Here, you’ll learn to build technologies that can hear, understand, and speak.Over the course of two years, you’ll grow proficient in the entire array of essential technologies based on deep ML and AI methods:
– natural language processing (NLP) and semantic search;– speech recognition and synthesis (ASR and TTS);
– voice and multimodal biometrics (SRE) and acoustic event recognition;
– large language models (LLM), multiagent and generative systems.
You’ll be able to opt for your preferred area of study – from low-level signal processing to high-level LLM system architectures – and conveniently combine your studies with your job in the field.
We encourage our students to pursue their academic ambitions, be that publications in top-ranked journals or participation in world-class conferences under the supervision of our experts.
The program is implemented by ITMO University and its corporate partner Speech Technology Center (STC) – a global manufacturer of products and solutions based on speech AI, machine learning, and computer vision.

Career
With a degree in speech technologies and machine learning you can claim mid-level positions as an ML researcher, an ML engineer, or a data engineer.
ML researchers conduct fundamental and applied studies in speech technologies and NLP, create new algorithms, publish papers in leading journals, and create prototypes of innovative solutions.
ML engineers specialize in implementing and operating industrial ML models; they’re responsible for implementing, optimizing, and scaling up solutions for speech recognition and synthesis, voice biometrics, and NLP in product systems.
Data engineers design and support reliable infrastructure for data, build ETL pipelines for multimodal data (audio, text, and metainformation), design storage solutions, and ensure data quality for ML projects.
Our graduates are hired by top-tier tech companies, including STC, Sberbank, Huawei, Yandex, T-Bank, VK, Ozon, and research centers, where they work on commercial products and carry on with their research activities.
